Meridian High School physical education teacher Tia Moore, a native of Arlington County, was inducted into the Arlington Sports Hall of Fame last month. From 1994-1999, she was instrumental in laying the foundation for the Wakefield High School girls basketball program and earning All-National District, All-Region, and All-Met honors alongside beginning the team MVP in her junior and senior years. After graduating from Wakefield High School, she attended Christopher Newport University, where she played basketball while majoring in Education. Tia is a Christopher Newport University legend with many other career school records.

After graduating from CNU with a B.A. in Education, she spent several years teaching and coaching the youth of Hampton Roads before returning to Northern Virginia. She makes a difference by being a positive role model for students, faculty members, and the community. In 2020, she was named Virginia Secondary Physical Education Teacher of the Year. In addition to her current role in the FCCPS school system, she is also a National Open Trainer and works with school systems all over the United States to improve curriculum and instruction.
