Dr. Peter Noonan's Update

Dear FCCPS Families,

Another Friday has arrived, and with it comes the warmer weather bringing us closer to summer! This week’s communication provides updates regarding summer school, the instructional models for 21-22, teacher appreciation week, and a few other important reminders.

Summer School:

Summer programming is moving full steam ahead and staffed for in-person learning. Each school has shared information about summer school in their newsletters. Remember, students will have Summer School from July 6th-July 30th. The Secondary schools will also offer summer school as well as other programs during the summer. Please visit your school’s website for more information.

PreK-Grade 3 Instructional Model for 21-22 School Year:

All students in grades PreK-Grade 3 will have 5-full days a week of in-person instruction. FCCPS will provide no virtual model for our youngest learners.

Grades 4-5 Instructional Model for 21-22 21-22 School Year:

All students in Grades 4 and 5 have two instructional options for the 21-22 school year. Families will receive a survey soon.

  • Option 1--Five full days of in-person instruction
  • Option 2--Five full days of virtual/online instruction

Secondary (Grades 6-12) Instructional Model for 21-22 School Year:

FCCPS looks forward to welcoming back students to full-time (5 days a week) in-person learning for the 2021-2022 school year. Our transition back to in-person learning this spring underscored that model’s tremendous benefit and value to our students. Factoring in the impact of COVID-19 and the availability of vaccines, we can provide in-person instruction with greater ease for our students and is FCCPS’ preferred model for all. However, we recognize that due to various Covid-related factors, online learning may be the preferred model of instruction for some.

Our Secondary Instructional Options for 2021-2022 will be as follows:

  • Option 1 - Five-day In-person instruction
  • Option 2 - Five-day online learning option

NOTE: If you select Option 2, we ask you to list your COVID-related concern prohibiting your student from participating in in-person instruction.

For our school teams to plan for next year accurately, we must have an idea of each students’ instructional placement for next year. We recognize that your decision may change based on the increased availability of children’s vaccines and may change your decision which we will honor.

Below is a survey that we are asking you to complete by Friday, May 7th

Secondary Instructional Choice Survey for 2021-22

You will hear more from our schools in their respective newsletters.

Teacher Appreciation Week:

Just a reminder that May 3-7 is teacher appreciation week! We hope everyone will take a moment next week, especially after this year, to show their gratitude to our teachers and instructional staff.

Equity & Diversity Celebrations:

Over the last several months, we have been recognizing and celebrating the contributions to some diverse groups in alignment with national calendars. May begins both Asian American and Jewish American Heritage Month, so be on the lookout for more information! Please visit our Equity, Diversity & Inclusion webpage for more details.

Vaccinations for 16+ Persons:

Vaccinations are open now for all people age 16 and above with no restrictions. Please register for an appointment using www.vaccinefinder.org. Additionally, there is a Community Vaccine Center (CVC) located in Tysons, and you can Enter Level 1 of the former Lord & Taylor space (corridor entrance between Francesca's and Lids). The Tysons CVC now offers walk-in appointments! First-come, first-served appointments are available Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Complete a registration form on-site or make an appointment in their scheduling system for a shorter wait. Again, the location is in the former Lord & Taylor store, 7950 Tysons Corner Center, in Tysons.

One final reminder this week...please keep students who are feeling ill home and reach out to your school’s health clinic for support as needed. We want to keep our schools as healthy as possible. Please have a wonderful weekend and be safe!

All my best,

Peter
