FCCPS Alert for Snow

Dear FCCPS Family,

The weather forecast is calling for potential snow on Sunday and Monday, and we’d like to proactively tell you our plan so that staff and families can prepare for any potential impacts.

If there is a significant weather event that would require our school sites to be closed for snow removal, the first day of a significant weather event would be a snow day for all students and staff. The snow day includes students who are in virtual and in-person instructional delivery methodology.

A snow day is a rite of passage in childhood, an unexpected joy that almost all of us can remember even as adults. While FCCPS is deeply committed to our students’ education and return, we do not wish for the absence of a snow day to become the latest thing COVID has taken away from our students and families.

If there is a second day of this weather event, for example, to clear our school sites and/or the weather is still making travel difficult, on the second day of a significant weather event, the following will occur:

  • Cohort 2 and 3 students and staff who are teaching and learning virtually will resume virtual instruction.

  • Cohort 1 special education and preschool students will have a second snow day.  This second day will be a planning day for these teachers and staff for either being ready to move to virtual instruction if the weather impact continues or to plan for resuming in-person instruction on day three.

  • Secondary students scheduled to be onsite for ESOL or intervention and remediation work will resume virtual learning.  Please be on the lookout for program-specific communications from your schools.

In the event of the third day of this weather event, all students, PreK-12, will move to virtual instruction.
